Some of our favorite memories begin with a smell. For me, it was the wonderful smell of freshly popped popcorn filling our home.
My first memories of popcorn take me back to my childhood, when my uncles, Henry and Warnie, would pop popcorn on top of the stove in one of my Granny’s old pots. I can still imagine that familiar sound—the kernels popping one by one—and the amazing aroma spreading throughout the house.
Once my uncles realized just how much I loved their popcorn, they took turns popping it for me on a regular basis. It quickly became my #1 favorite snack. As I got older, I couldn't resist popping popcorn every chance I got. Friends and family became my willing taste testers, and I loved sharing it with them. Every time I popped a fresh batch, that wonderful smell would waft throughout our home, and I would feel the same happiness and excitement I felt as a child.
I would wait impatiently for each kernel to pop, listening to that familiar rhythm from the stove.
And I always made sure we had plenty of popcorn kernels in the house. Those simple childhood memories stayed with me.
The old pot. The sound of kernels popping. The smell filling the house.
My uncles Henry and Warnie.
My Granny's kitchen.
The excitement of waiting for that last few kernels to POP.
And most of all, the joy of sharing something I loved with family and friends.
